Thirty-five weeks

Claire is sporting a cute shirt that Kathy Postma gave to me back in January. Finally fits!

This week Claire is starting to put a little weight on her legs when her feet touch the ground. She even bounces a little in the bouncy chair. Big progress!

Claire is still clicking her tongue and smacking her lips constantly. It’s so cute. I like to joke and say she is learning one of those African languages that use clicks.

Claire loves peek-a-boo and surprises. It’s cool to see how her little mind is developing and learning things like object permanence.

We are still nursing, about 4 times a day. I really love it! It gives me a few minutes just to sit and hold my baby. It won’t last long, and it makes me sad! Last night I was looking through my iphone notes and found my list of nursing times from back in January (I used to write down every time we nursed, which side and for how long). I was blown away– I was nursing 30 minute sessions every two or three hours for days and days! It made me proud to see my notes, but so glad that those days are over. I suddenly appreciated how much easier it is to care for Claire now. She sleeps through the night every night for goodness sake!

Thirty-four weeks

This was a big week! We left Claire overnight for the first time ever! We had a wedding to photograph in LaGrande Oregon, a good 5 hours drive away. It would have been just too stressful to take Claire with us, so we had Grandma Laurie fly up to stay with her. We were gone two nights. I was sad and nervous to leave, but everything went really well. Mom said that Claire was a very good baby, though a little more subdued than normal. Mom said she missed us.

Besides the big weekend, here is what Claire has been up to lately:

Claire still refuses to participate in tummy time. She rolls right over, or just cries. It doesn’t seem like crawling is in her future.

Claire loves her little toy camera! It lights up and plays little songs. Her favorite toy by far.

Claire loves to click her tongue all the time. It makes her happy when other people do it too.

Claire still loves hearing people sing. The moms at Stroller Strides sing songs as we workout and Claire always lights up and smiles. Everyone laughs at her because its so cute.

I get comments all the time from people, even total strangers about how beautiful Claire is. Of course I think she is the best, most beautiful baby ever. People ask what color her eyes are and I jokingly say “none!” Her eyes are so dark and gray, like you took Eric’s brown eyes and my gray eyes and swirled them together. I like to think they are the color of deep, cold water. A Puget Sound color.
